The Award Project is an installation of 83 awards that I received throughout my childhood, hung chronologically, alongside a letter from my dad. The final frame of the installation holds an email my dad sent me, in which he expresses his concerns for my financial future, and his distress with my choice to pursue art. I highlight this letter because I have these same anxieties. The letter placed among the awards forms a point of conflict, transforming the piece into more than just a showcase of the many awards I have received. The letter exposes another layer of depth to the awards, opening conversations about expectations, education, and family dynamics, especially those between my dad and me.
